Volunteer Job Descriptions
Bull Pen workers - Helps organize, provides structure, and gets kids to the deck for their race. These are broken up by age group and gender.
Time commitment: 3:45pm to the end of the meet (6 and under finish after backstroke)
Computer Team - For home meets or away meets that uses electronic timing systems: Ensure that the times from our electronic timers are loading correctly and monitor timer discrepancies. Position is broken down into first and second half.
For non-electronic timing systems: Uses the computer to input times from races.
Time commitment: 1st Half 5pm to Backstroke events, 2nd Half Backstroke to the end of the meet.
Deck Manager - Organizes swimmers behind the blocks to check them in and line them up before their race. Position is broken down into first and second half.
Time commitment: 1st Half 5 pm to Backstroke events, 2nd Half Backstroke to the end of the meet.
Place Judge - The place judges are to judge the 1st-6th place finishes as they see them. Position is broken down into first and second half. Meeting with official between 5-5:15pm.
Time commitment: 1st Half 5 pm to Backstroke events, 2nd Half Backstroke to the end of the meet.
Ribbons - Work at the awards table. Places labels on ribbons and distributes to swimmers' file boxes.
Time commitment: 2nd half Only - Backstroke until all ribbons are labeled and filed.
Timers - Use a stopwatch and record times for swimmers behind the blocks. Position is broken down into first and second half. Meeting with official between 5-5:15pm.
Time commitment: 1st Half 5 pm to Backstroke events, 2nd Half Backstroke to the end of the meet.
Meet Take Down/Clean Up - Responsible for breaking down all equipment required to run the meet, moving pool furniture, and picking up trash (must be willing to stay after the meet has finished). Away meets just take down tents and help clean up trash and left behind items in the bullpens.
Time commitment: Towards the end of the meet until all is cleaned up and the pool deck is returned to normal.
Jobs at Home Meets Only:
Announcer - This person makes all announcements and announces the races at our home meets.
Time commitment: 4 pm to the end of the meet
Concessions - Helps sell our concession stand offerings - must be over 18 for liability reasons. Positions are broken down into the first and second half.
Time commitment: 1st Half sets up starting at 4 pm and work until Backstroke events, 2nd half works Backstroke to the end of the meet and helps clean up.
Event Flipper - Sits in the lifeguard chair and flips the event board for spectators.
Time commitment: 1st Half 5pm to Backstroke events, 2nd Half Backstroke to the end of the meet.
Judges Recorder - After the Place Judges have ruled on the place finishes for each heat, the recorder will record the placements on the appropriate form. Position is broken down into first and second half.
Time commitment: 1st Half 5 pm to Backstroke events, 2nd Half Backstroke to the end of the meet.
Meet Set up - Set up the pool for meet, move pool furniture, and set up all meet equipment for Home meets only.
Time Commitment: 3:30pm - 4:30pm or until finished
Parking Manager - Ensure that cars are not parked in no parking zones. One volunteer will be stationed at the club house intersection to direct cars to other areas when the pool and basketball lots are full. One volunteer will drive around in their own golf cart to check problem prone parking areas of neighborhood.
Time Commitment: 3:45pm - 6pm or until finished
Parking Sign and Cone Collector - Collects all "No Parking" signs and orange cones around the neighborhood after the meet is over and brings them back to the pool.
Time Commitment: Can start removing signs and cones at 8:30pm
Jobs at Away Meets Only:
Master Recorder - For non electronic timing systems: Gets the placement form from the Judges Recorder, records times from the timers in each lane on the form and delivers it to the computer table. Requires walking and comfortable shoes. Position is broken down into first and second half.
Time commitment: 1st Half 5pm to Backstroke events, 2nd Half Backstroke to the end of the meet.
Tent Transportation - Use personal vehicles to load up tents in pump room at TCF Pool and transport them to Away Team Pool. After the meet is over, bring tents back to TCF Pool and put back in the pump room.
Time commitment: 3-4 pm and 9-10 pm depending on when the meet ends.
