Practice FAQs
Do I need to stay with my Sparks swimmer during practice?
Yes. Parents of Sparks swimmers are required to stay during practice.
Do I need to stay with my Flames swimmer during practice?
That depends on your individual child's maturity level. Each family needs to determine if their child is capable of being left at practice by themselves. Swimmers who need assistance using the bathroom will need to have a parent stay with them at practice. Generally, parents of younger swimmers or swimmers who require more supervision should stay at the pool during practice.
Can children swim while practices are going on?
There are no lifeguards on duty during practices. Young children can use the baby pool and children can swim in the area beneath the slide. Parents must supervise children in the baby pool and those playing near the slide before or after their practice. Coaches and committee members are NOT supervising the slide area or the baby pool. Coaches will clear the slide area after each practice and only children with parents watching them will be allowed to swim during other practices.
The area beneath the slide is NOT available for recreational swimming during the 6 & Under and Sparks practices. This is from 5:30-6 pm during the after school practices and from 11-11:30 am during the morning practices. This area is utilized by the coaches and swimmers during these practice times.
Please don’t leave the care of a younger sibling to a child who is supposed to be practicing, there is no way for a swimmer to keep a sibling out of harm’s way while they are swimming their practice.
Can someone take my swimmer to the bathroom during practice?
Our Coaches and Committee Members are not able to take swimmers to the restroom or assist them in the bathroom. Please remember to have your child visit the restroom before practice. Even those children who have mastered the use of the bathroom often struggle when having to deal with a wet bathing suit.
What should my child bring to practice?
All swimmers should have a pair of goggles, a towel, and if they have long hair, a swim cap. Swimmers who don't want to wear a swim cap should pull their hair back in a ponytail so their hair is off their face and out of their eyes. Please be sure to label all your items.
My child can't make it to practice. Will they be in trouble?
No!!! We realize that our swimmers and their families have other commitments. Our coaches take attendance as a way to learn all the names and faces of the swimmers. Missed practices are not held against a swimmer.
